Of Whiskey & Wine

Hey... is this thing on? Can you hear me? Helloooooo....

Hi, and welcome to the newest iteration of "Of Whiskey & Wine". I'm your host, Donya The Cake Lady! Thank you! Thank you! Please be seated... You're too kind...

Many of you know me and/or my alter ego The Writer, but I should introduce myself to the rest of you. As mentioned, my name is Donya and I am a certified bakeaholic, oenophile, foodie, and published author. And like all the greats - Twain, Hughes, Hemingway, Dumas, et al - I love a good cocktail. So I took a bowl of batter and a bottle of grown-up and I started a business. Well, there were a million steps in between those, but yeah, that was the outcome. Then I took that business and started writing about it. And here we are, enjoying the fruits Of Whiskey & Wine.

What's funny to me is that I have been writing this blog, this one introductory piece, for a month. A whole ass 30 days have passed since I typed "Hey...". I don't think it's ever taken me this long to put 146 words on the screen (well, 445 in the end). I had to ask myself why. There had to be a reason why it was taking me so long to create this. Apparently, there was a message that either I was waiting for or waiting to deliver. Have I received it? I don't think so. Well, maybe.

I started this as a "Welcome to My New Digs" piece. Then it was a "Hi, this is Donya" piece. Now, I'm feeling it going a different way, but if you've been with me long enough, you fully get that. Linearity is normally my thing. I wrote a whole post about it. But you also know I have the attention span of a dead gnat, so I'm highly likely to wander off into traffic. So I think I know where this is headed. Follow along and don't worry if you get lost. Just sit tight and I'll be right back.

Your nugget for today: Always Be You (like I'm being totally me right now). You are who, what and how you are. There is no one like you, and there is no one who can you better than you. It's commonly expected for you to fall in line with what they think and believe you are, but you don't have to. You're not extra; they're basic. You're not "too bright", they're just dim. You may not be the best version of you ever, but you're damn sure the best version of you right now! Celebrate being YOU!

Now go take you're bright, shiny, amazing self into my closet and buy some snackwrap.
