oh hey… Hi February!

Was it just me or was January hella long? Like neverending…

February is moving along at a hasty clip though, isn’t it? Maybe because i have things on the books for the month, unlike January. What’s new, you ask? Well last we spoke, I was already working on your Valentine’s treats. Sales are going nicely, thank you all! I’m also hosting a “Mini Bake Sale” Feb 13 and 14 if you want just a little something for your lovie…

I also mentioned the federal employee lunch that I’m participating in for my February giveback. Well Baking Day is Saturday! I’ll be powering through about 300 cupcakes for the currently-not-furloughed-but-probably-will-be-soon federal employees at LAX. The luncheon provided by Pick Your Plate on Monday will be a tasty mix of Filipino and American favorites crafted by my favorite tita Auntie Claire. Take an afternoon and go see her. The restaurant is open 11a-2p for lunch and 5p-8p for dinner. Friday is All You Can Eat for $10 and the food is amazing! You know i’m a foodie, i’ll try just about anything once. Maybe twice. A coworker took me over there once and I absolutely fell in love with the place! Claire is a beautiful soul and it shows through her cooking. She makes a variety of authentic Filipino food – pancit, adobo, sisig, kare-kare, bbq and my favorite, dinuguan. That is a dish not for the faint of heart, and she makes it perfectly! She asked me one day if i was actually Filipino and didn’t know it… LOL! PS – her lichon is insane! (If you don’t know what any of these are, you need to go see her and ask. And eat! STAT!)

Sorry food tangent… You know how us foodies are…

But anyway, yeah, Baking Day is Saturday. If you would like to donate time, money or supplies, please let me know and i’ll give you specifics. Any contribution – from loaning me a cupcake pan to sweating in the kitchen with me – would be greatly appreciated! We’ll be making, chocolate, carrot and vanilla cupcakes for the folks and i’ll drop them off to Auntie Monday morning.

AND…. If you can’t tell by the colors in this blog, It’s Black History Month!!! Take a peek at my home page to meet the King and Queen. Even though we know we didn’t all descend from kings and queens (there are too many jokers in my family alone!), this month I celebrate the royalty of our people and heritage. Yes, i also know that Black Panther is fictitious, but it represents so much of what the African Diaspora has created and evolved into. I hope these two offerings are adequate representations of our beautiful heritage. As both cakes are made of premium, choice ingredients, they are at a higher price. $40 Twin, $75 Full. And believe me, they are worth every penny!
